Because of my remoteness and my being a homebody type, I like to spend months at a time at my site once I get there.
At about every month mark, my patience is often wearing thin, and my sanity becoming a little less, errr, sane.
I’ve decided that as my last blog entry (until probably August) I want to write a big THANK YOU for all of the letters, cards, and care packages you guys have been sending me.
When my days are dragging and I’m feeling especially lonely, these really do lift my spirits, and can do as much as make up for an entire month of rain.
Thank you mom, dad, Pam, and Mike for the continued once-monthly packages. Although they come sometimes 4 months late and out of order, a candy cane in March is just as good (although melted) as it would have been in December! Some volunteers say that the love stops coming after the first year, but I know you guys will not forget about me. J
Thank you Blythe for the awesome package I received! It says a lot that somebody whom I haven’t even seen since high school takes the time and spends the money to send me a piece of my hometown. I’m going to wear my Odessa Jackalopes shirt with pride.
Dug, I’ve got to admit your package was one of the best I’ve received. Mostly because of all the spices, and because I finally got the music by you that I’ve been requesting since late junior high!! As I’ve told you before, just having the smell of those familiar chili spices makes my heart and soul smile. Nik and I ate the Velveeta shells and cheese with the Hatch Chilis and each added in our own spices. I added Chipotle and the amazing ‘Desert Sage Salt.” Nik and I both had tears in our eyes and burning faces and enjoyed every bite. Thanks!!
Thank you everyone for the baby powder and lavender dryer sheets! You really do read my blog, and now my clothes, body and house will be smelling fresh for quite a while.
I get just as much pleasure out of writing thank you cards and sending small things back to people who send me a letter or a card, so keep them coming. If you’ve sent something and I haven’t thanked you for it- it’s possible that your package is still in transit, or my thank-you reply is still on it’s way to you!
Just a reminder not to send paper envelopes (I had a box of girl scout cookies stolen!) and smaller boxes are easier to carry to my site.
Here’s a few ideas of things to send if yer at a loss:
-Starbucks instant coffee packs
-crafty stuffs (beads, embroidery thread, permanent markers, colored scrapbooky paper)
-pocket sized antibacterial gel
-dried fruit (apricots, mixes, apples, etc.)
-photos! family, cities, cute animals, etc. Ni-Vans and Jennifers love looking at photos.
Thanks again for all the love and support and helping me stay sane at site.
