I’ve never been a big reader. I often start books and don’t finish them or take over a month to finish one book. I tend to read food blogs and make crafts before I sit still enough to read in the States. The Peace Corps has changed that. I’ve had a lot of free time on my hands, allowing me to read more (for pleasure) than I ever have in the past 4 years combined.
Here’s a list of books I have read since being in Vanuatu. I know I’ll have less time to read once school starts up, but you can go ahead and keep the books coming.
In my islandy-influenced most humble opinion:
*= I read it for the sake of having something to read
**= pretty good
***=hard to put down
****= could not put down and kept my noggin’ full of bubbly love.
*1. Getting Stoned With the Savages by J. Maarten Troost
***2. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
***3. Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
**4. White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
***5. Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
*6. Serving Crazy With Curry by Amulya Malladi
**7. Remote Feed by David Gilbert
*8. The Labrynth of Solitude by Octavio Paz (In Progress….this puts me to sleep)
**9. The Food of the Gods by H.G.Wells
****10. Dark Tower- The Gunslinger by Stephen King (book one in a 7 part series….I have
number 7 but nothing in between
**11. The Fig Eater by Jody Shields
***12. Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
**13. Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
***14. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larson
***15. The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larson
(WANTED: The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.)
***16. Freakonomics by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner
***17. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (Currently reading)
Making lists also gives me something to do so I will update you next time I have internet. Pam sent me a bunch of quick-reading adult non-fiction, mystery type books that I’ll sprinkle in here and there. I’m craving some Anthony Bourdain books and I think Shaela is sending me one of those. Also craving Sedaris’s newest book.
The end.
